Chris and some of the girls on his team

Chris and some of the girls on his team at soccer practice after Hurricane Charley

Uncle Jon, Hurricane Charley, soccer, and Scooty's first day of school

First, Uncle Jon (my brother) came for a visit. It was great to see him as he doesn't visit near often enough. Just in time for the big Hurricane. And now that I think about it, there was a hurricane around the time of his last visit too...

Well, we made it through ok, power was out for most of that night though. We were watching the start of the Olympics and the wind was picking up outside. Could hear it howling. We got through Bermuda and Herzehovia (sp??) and *ppppppft* - power gone. So, pulled out the flashlights. Waited for a short bit, then I went to sleep. The kids were already asleep, so they missed the whole thing. Bill read for a short while by flashlight. But, power was back up the next morning, so all is well.

We were without power again Saturday morning for an hour or so. We had taken the boys up to soccer practice (I know, what kind of mom an I for doing that the day after a hurricane for chrissakes) for my littlest. They got to run around for a while on the muddy field (there were a couple of the other parents there too, probably for the same reason). On our way back home as we were driving next to one of the powerlines, there was an incredibly loud crack*&^%sizzle and sparks went flying. Lots of sparks. Nothing fell down, but it scared us as it was right as we drove underneath. And of course, we get to the house and the power is out. That must have been it because the computers were still on as we've 10 minutes on the small UPS they are plugged into. So we had enough time to power them down and read for a while before the power came back on again.

Scooty's first day of Kindergarten got delayed by Hurricane Charley last week. Took them all in this morning and spent a half hour in the library. Read him three little books while the older two read theirs. They can take tests on some of the books for the AR (Advanced Reader) program, so I'm thinking it's a good habit to start.

The boys heading in to school. This is Scooty's first day of Kindergarten.

Then I walked him over to his classroom, took his picture, and a good bye kiss. He didn't even look baaaaaaack. Wah!

Scooty and Jean-Luc Birthdays

Little Scooty turned 5 last week. My baby. Is. Growing. Up. *sigh*

He wanted a big huge party with all his friends since this was his year for a party. We tried to lure him into the easy route of choosing an expensive gift from his parents like an X-Box or something similar, but he wanted a big party. So, he got a big party at the Fun Attic with all his bestest friends. They had a blast! It's a two story building with one whole side filled with one of those enclosed climbey things you find at at McDonald's from floor to ceiling. And pizza and cake. Mini-golf. He was a happy little party boy.

Jean-Luc's birthday is Saturday. No party for him this year, but I did tell him that I'd take him to Medieval Times. It's a Rennaisance period theme dinner place in Orlando. Just me and him and his friend Dylan. He's actually going to a local TaeKwonDo tournament this year on Saturday. Last year he would have been thrilled with a tourney on his birthday, but not so much this year.

The kids are sure growing up fast.
