Vacation to Scotland and Ireland - Mar 26

Bus is broken, not our fault.

PJ got the bus working in the nick of time. Made it to the airport, got checked in, and on the plane.

The trip to Philly was ok, the Mills and I played Phase 23.

The trip to Orlando was delayed by two hours. I was upgraded to first class, I gave my seat to Chris. He loved it.

Finally made it home around midnight.

Vacation to Scotland and Ireland - Mar 25

Spent the night at Summerhill house. Had a nice bus tour around Dublin, then stopped at Trinity college to see the Book of Kills. The line was huge! Bill, Chris, and I decided to skip it and start our free time. Went to Grafton Street, a wide pedestrian mall and found a Starbucks.

Met up with the Mills and had lunch at Carluccis. After that, stopped in a beautiful park, St Stephens Park. The boys tossed the rugby ball for a bit, and then we headed to Dublin Castle.
After that, headed back to meet up with the group for dinner at the Czech Inn in Temple Bar.
Then back to the hotel for a quick game of Catan and preparing to leave for home.

Vacation to Scotland and Ireland - Mar 24

Had a nice Irish breakfast after sleeping on a hard bed. Drove into Belfast early, so we had some free time. Found Starbuck's and had some coffee. Then had a bus tour around Belfast, the guide was very informative.

Lunch was back in the downtown area. We found a café in the City Hall. Afterwards, we caught up with Kathy, Robert, Waterman, and the boys in an Irish pub. Did a little shopping, Chris bought a rugby ball. Loaded the bus and headed over to the Titanic Experience. It was a very nice time learning all about how they built the ship and other industries of the time like textiles and tobacco. And also how the ship sank.

Next was the drive to Dublin, about an hour. Had dinner at the Belvedere Hotel, and then enjoyed a lively Irish show.

Vacation to Scotland and Ireland - Mar 23

Breakfast at the hotel. Packed to leave Scotland.

Went to Alloway to the Robert Burns Birthplace Memorial. It was pretty. He wrote Brigadoon and Auld Lang Syne.

Then on to the ferry to Northern Ireland Port of Belfast. We played a lively game of Phase 10 with Robert, Kathy, Kevin, and Rachel. Kathy won. Bus ride to the hotel, then dinner.

After dinner, met up with Jenny and Emmet Lynch and their cute little daughter Noelle.

Vacation to Scotland and Ireland - Mar 22

Breakfast with Kathy, Robert, and Mr Waterman. Then an hour and a half up to Stirling Castle. We spent several hours touring the castle, it was beautiful! We did a drive by of the William Wallace memorial, but the bus could not get up there.

Then we went to Callander for lunch, the Mhor Bread Company. Delicious! An hour back to Edinburgh, then 45 minutes at the Scottish Museum.

After that, we went for a drink in a local pub. Dinner was at Jollies pizza and pasta restaurant. It was like Chuckie Cheese. Then a long walk back to the hotel.

Vacation to Scotland and Ireland - Mar 21

Against my better judgment, did the bus tour of Edinburgh. It was nearly an exact duplicate of the bus tour coming into Edinburgh except for a stop at Holyrood Palace. This is where the Queen stays when she's up in Scotland.
After that, we toured Edinburgh Castle. Beautiful! Enjoyed that bit immensely. Lunch followed at a little Italian restaurant. Afterwards, we bought Chris a kilt. He looked very cute! Also, Avery and Mr Waterman also bought kilts.

Then, off to dinner at a restaurant literally next door to the place two nights before with the same exact menu called Dirty Dicks. After dinner, we did a ghost tour which was excellent. We ended up at the hotel. Had a hot chocolate with Mr Waterman and some of the teachers and tour guide.

Vacation to Scotland and Ireland - Mar 20

Had breakfast and headed out from the hotel. It was a beautiful morning, crisp but not too cold. Headed down around Loch Ness, and made a stop at the Glencoe Visitors Center. Didn't do much there except lunch because they had free Wi-fi.
Headed out, and two hours later we stopped at Doune Castle. This is where parts of Outlander, Game of Thrones, and Monty Python were filmed. We had 45 minutes to see it before it closed. Then another hour to Edinburgh.
Went to the Hard Rock and bought a guitar pin and T-shirt. Had a nice dinner at the hotel.

Vacation to Scotland and Ireland - Mar 19

Took a 2.5 hour ride up the Highlands. Stopped at Loch Ness. Did the little exhibit which described finding and trying to prove out the monster.  Had a very nice lunch.

Drove by Loch Ness and stopped at Urquhart Castle. The castle was closed early for some odd reason, so we snapped some pictures and continued on to the hotel in Newtonmore. Our room was on the third floor, ugh!

Dinner was good, but was changed out at the last minute. Was expecting roast chicken, got chili con carne. Played Catan with Kathy and Robert in the bar, sipped on wine, and had a very nice evening.

Vacation to Scotland and Ireland - Mar 17/18

Left for Scotland from Orlando to Edinburgh. Looooong plane ride! Slept through the the time change. Landed in Edinburgh and got on the bus. Got a quick bus tour of the city. Stopped on the Royal Mile near Edinburgh Castle. We (the Mills and us) had lunch down in the Grass Market. After that, we did some shopping. Took a short walk downtown to Prince's Street where we were able to get some Prilosec for Chris.
More shopping, then dinner at the 1780 Restaurant. I had the modern day haggis which was seasoned mince beef and mashed potatoes. There was some other kind of diced root vegetable, not sure what it was. It was pretty good.

Then off to the hotel which was a budget tiny hotel. Unbelievably small!

Countries I've been to
