So I woke up a little late around 5:30 am. Went for my morning walk around the French Quarter. Visited Cafe du Monde, the Mississippi, stopped in at Starbucks for coffee, and back to the hotel. Bill was up, so he and I went to the Ritz Carlson for breakfast. Chris and Ashlee were still asleep. Had eggs and dressed up grits, Bill had the American breakfast of eggs, bacon, and potatoes. Dressed up grits are grits with cheese, bacon, and green onions. Yum!
After Chris and Ashlee got up, a few hours later, we went down to the Cafe du Monde. The line was mondo! So we said we'd come back later. Took a walk down around Jackson Square, then took them up to the Mississippi. So pretty!! Talked about the sea wall and how the barrier slides across the street to stop any flooding of the city. Walked over to Canal Place, then by Harrah's. We had a pleasant lunch at the Palace Café.
After lunch, walked through the French Quarter down Bourbon Street. Even in the afternoon, the place was packed with revelers.
Then we went by the Cafe du Monde, and this time the line was not so long. Had some delicious beignets and cafe au lait. Started walking over to Frenchman's Street, but after a while my heel started hurting so bad that we gave it up and came back to the hotel to rest.
Finally, had dinner at Muriel's on the balcony overlooking Jackson Square. Bill and I split the Filet Mignon, it was absolutely delicious! Chris and Ashlee had the salmon and chicken. After dinner, Bill and I were ready for sleep after the very short night before. Chris and Ashlee went down Bourbon Street after I told them to be careful. They were back after about an hour, but Bill and I were like completely asleep.
For the photos: Even though the Cafe du Monde line was fierce this morning, we were able to get in in the early afternoon. And Ashlee and Chris beside the mighty Mississippi.
